13: How does Proxy (Automatic) Bidding work?

A: When you bid on an Auction, you can use our Automatic Bidding process. By default, you can bid the minimum bid -- this amount is displayed for you on the bidding page. However, you can also enter a higher maximum bid that reflects the maximum you're willing to pay for the item. This amount is always kept confidential from other bidders. Our automatic bidding software then enters the lowest possible winning bid for you. If another buyer bids (in real time or by Proxy), we will automatically raise your bid until you are Winning or until you have reached your maximum.

Example:
1) Opening Price is $36.00 with a bid increment of $4.00.
On the Bid Entry page, you enter Your Maximum bid of $60.00 and click Place Bid.
The next page confirms your bid. "Your current bid is: $36.00", you click Submit.
The system processes your bid.
You are the current winning bidder at: $36.00
You receive a Bid Confirmation via email.

2) Another Bidder comes along to bid against you:
On the Bid Entry page, he enters a Maximum Bid of: $52.00.
The next screen confirms his bid.
The system then processes your PROXY bid because you entered a maximum bid of $60.00.
Second bidder is now losing with a $52.00 bid
You are still winning at: $56.00

14: What is the bid increment?

A: The Bid Increment is the amount by which you must outbid the current Winning Bid. If you place a Maximum Bid above this amount, it must be a multiple of the Bid Increment greater than the Minimum Bid. For example, consider an item that has a current price of $100.00 and a Bid Increment of $25.00. If you place a Maximum Bid of $140.00, your current Winning Bid will be lowered to $125.00, the next lowest Bid Increment, and $125.00 will also display as your Maximum Bid. If you bid $150.00, your current Winning Bid will also reflect $125.00, but your Maximum Bid will display $150.00 in your Bidding History because you met the Bid Increment twice.
